Rwandan Minister says US Government out-of touch

Ms. Louise Mushikiwabo, the Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs has lashed out at the US Department of State, accusing  US Government officials of being out of touch with Rwandan political and social issues. In a communication with the media, Mushikiwabo said that the United States Government  has an “out-of-Rwanda reading”  and needs to appreciate the on going political crackdown and violence  within a “contextualized,” environment.

This rare open criticism of the US government by Rwandan officials comes after a harsh assessment of the Rwandan poor human rights record by the US Assistant Secretary for African Affairs in front of the US House of Representative committee.

“Rwandans in Rwanda don’t have any anxiety. They are at a very exciting time of their history,” Mushikiwabo stated on May 28, 2010.

However, according to independent observers of the Rwandan politics and the US State Department, Rwandans, instead of being excited, are anxious because of the repression by the current Tutsi minority government  ruling  Rwanda and the violence ahead of the presidential elections planned for August 2010.

The incumbent President Kagame, likely to remain in power, has been quashing the media, human rights organizations, and any political opposition. He has also kept the ethnic Hutu majority and Tutsis of lower classes under the yoke of an effective servitude to the profit of a tiny clique at the top of the power.

Ms Mushikiwabo studied,  worked, and lived in the US for more than two decades and married an American before returning to Rwanda to become Minister of Communication, then Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Mme Louise Mushikiwabo, le ministre rwandais des Affaires étrangères a fustigé le Département d'État américain, accusant les responsables américains du gouvernement d'être hors de contact avec les questions politiques et sociales du Rwanda. Dans une communication avec les médias, Mushikiwabo a déclaré que le gouvernement américain a un "out-of-Rwanda lecture" et d'apprécier les besoins en cours répression politique et la violence au sein d'un contextualisée "," environnement.
Cette rare critique  ouverte du gouvernement américain par des responsables rwandais vient après une évaluation sévère du bilan assez pauvre des droits de l'homme au Rwanda par le Secrétaire adjoint américain aux affaires africaines,  devant la Chambre des Représentant du comité.
«Les Rwandais au Rwanda n'ont pas d'anxiété. Ils sont à un moment très excitant de leur histoire ", a déclaré Mushikiwabo le 28 mai 2010.
Toutefois, selon des observateurs indépendants de la politique rwandaise et le Département d'Etat américain, les Rwandais, au lieu d'être excité, sont anxieuses à cause de la répression par le gouvernement minoritaire tutsi actuellement au pouvoir au Rwanda et à la violence avant les élections présidentielles prévues pour août 2010.
Le président sortant Paul Kagame, susceptibles de rester au pouvoir, a anéanti les médias, les organisations des droits humains, et toute opposition politique. Il a également tenu la majorité ethnique Hutu et les Tutsi de la baisse des classes sous le joug d'une servitude effective au profit d'une clique minuscule au sommet du pouvoir.
Mme Mushikiwabo a étudié, travaillé et vécu aux Etats-Unis pendant plus de deux décennies et a épousé un Américain avant de retourner au Rwanda pour devenir ministre de la Communication, puis ministre des Affaires étrangères.
