Leadership, yesterday, suspended from duty and arrested Lieutenant General Charles Muhire and Major General Emmanuel Karenzi Karake.
This was revealed by the Defence and military spokesman, Major Jill Rutaremara, who said that the two senior army officers committed serious offences.
“Lt. Gen. Muhire was suspended due to serious charges of corruption and misuse of office while Maj. Gen. Karenzi was suspended on serious charges of immoral conduct that contravenes and undermines the values and ethos of the Rwanda Defence Force,” Maj. Rutaremara said in a statement released yesterday.
“This action was taken in order to enforce discipline, moral

Rutaremara added that investigations continue.

Two Rwandan Military Generals have been arrested, 256news.com can reveal.
Lieutenant General Charles Muhire and Major General Emmanuel Karenzi Karake
were arrested while trying to escape to Uganda
last night after learning that they were to be arrested, according to a reliable
military source.
According to this source,
the two generals criticized the President of
Rwanda, Paul Kagame, of poor leadership, after
his recent army reshuffle which saw Muhire (pictured) dropped as Air force Chief
of Staff and deployed to head the reserve force, a non-existent office.
Major General Emmanuel Karenzi Karake is
reported to have said Kagame is
incapable to run the country and also went ahead
to criticize the
leadership of Lt. Gen. Charles Kayonga who took
over as Chief of Defence Forces.
According to Rwanda’s Defence and military spokesman, Major Jill
Rutaremara, the two senior army officers committed serious offences.
“Lt. Gen. Muhire was suspended due to serious charges of corruption
and misuse of office while Maj. Gen. Karenzi was suspended on serious
charges of immoral conduct that contravenes and undermines the values
and ethos of the Rwanda Defence Force,” Maj. Rutaremara said in a
statement.
But according to the highly placed sources, the two Generals are being clamped
down upon for being close to former Ambassador, Lt. General Kayumba Nyamwasa,
who fled the country through Uganda to South Africa on February 27, this year.
The Rwandan government had accused him of involvement in three grenade attacks
in Kigali, Rwanda's capital.
According to observers who have been following events in Rwanda over
the last few months, political and security temperatures are continuing to rise
unpredictably and quite dangerously.
